June Drew (Speck) 43-7 soloed in 1940 off of Barney Olfields racetrack later became Hartsfield International in Atlanta. She got her pilots certificate in 1940. In 1941 she was hired by the Naval Air Station at Peachtree Decalb airport in Atlanta to work on the Link Trainer.
On Pearl Harbor Day a Piper Cub caught fire inside the hangar from a light bulb at Lakewood Airport in Atlanta and June pushed the plane out of the hangar in order to keep the hangar from catching fire. She received a telegram from Jacquelline Cochran to join the WASP. She flew BT-13’s and 15’s and AT-6 aircraft out of Avenger Field, Sweetwater, TX.
She married 1st Lt. James Lawrence Drew; he flew 35 missions as a B-17G pilot with the 8th Air Force in Europe. They had four children after the war.
