Sylvia Dahmes Clayton 43-5

An aviator and native of Redwood Falls, Minnesota. Served in the Women Airforce Service Pilots (WASP), class 43-W-5. Clayton attended the Northwest Institute of Medical Technology to earn her medical technicians degree. She was accepted into the Civilian Pilot training Program (CPTP) her junior year graduating in 1942. After college, Clayton went to work at Harper Hospital in Detroit, Michigan, and joined the Civil Air Patrol (CAP). Clayton describes her experiences after joining the WASP in 1943, class 43-5, her training at Avenger Field, Sweetwater, Texas, and at her first assignment to Romulus Army Air Base, Romulus, Michigan, ferrying aircraft. Later, Clayton was sent to Pursuit School in Brownsville, Texas where she checked out on numerous planes including the P-51 and P-40.
