With Us In Spirit

For those WASP who are unable to make it for one reason or another, we dedicate this page to you.

We are carrying all the WASP’s with us on this flight. You will be there in spirit, it is a tribute to you, our dear precious WASP. Thank you for your service to our country!  Here are some messages from those who are wishing their fellow WASP well.

Thank you so much for the invitation to attend the planned Operation Fifinella. It sounds as if it will be really exciting, and what a novel thing for Sylvia to think of . (by the way, Sylvia was a bay-mate of mine in training). Unfortunately, I will be unable to attend, as my mobility is somewhat limited and I do less traveling nowadays.

Best wishes for a tremendously successful venture, and I wish all who attend a wonderful flight.

My name is Ruth DiFrancesco. I was Married in 1942 and my husband was shipped overseas 3 days after our wedding where he served in the 305th bomb group in England for 3 years. I loved flying, and while he was gone I went to Hill Air Force Base and got a job. For a short time I served as the personal pilot of William Williamson, the commander of Hill Air force Base in Utah. I joined the WASP shortly before it was disbanded in l944. I flew B17’s and B24’s.

I am 84 years old now and live in Kooskia, Idaho. A friend showed me an article from the General Aviation News where I learned about the reunion. I Just want to let you know that I am still alive and interested. Hope you have a wonderful time. I won’t be able to be there with you except in spirit.

Yours Truly,
Ruth DiFrancesco

I am Elizabeth McKinley Matray’s Great Nephew and am interested in finding information on Aunt Lib’s WASP service. I learned that the Matray Archives are at USC LA and I have requested help in retrieving them. I don’t know if they contain Aunt Lib’s story or not. My Mother is the historian and she is getting up in years. It would be so wonderful if she could accept Aunt Lib’s medal for her as we know she would be so proud of receiving the recognition deserved. Aunt Lib was special in many ways as were most of these Ladies.
